Howard Lockhart Fogg (1917-1996), photogravure of his watercolor depicting the private car track of the Florida East Railway at the Royal Poinciana Hotel (1894-1936), Palm Beach as it would have appeared in 1902;  The painting was commissioned by Lucius Beebe (1902-1966) for his book "Mansions on Rails - The Folklore of the Private Railway Car" (it appears on the jacket as well as page 172), publ. Howell-North, 1959. Sheet 10 1/2 x 14".  Very good condition, on mid century vintage photographic stock.  Some toning top and bottom margins.
Howard Fogg was considered the dean of American railroad artists.  A WWII fighter pilot, he was hired after the war by the American Locomotive Co. (ALCO)  as in-house artist.  That same year he met Lucius Beebe, then a journalist with the NY Herald Tribune, who commissioned Fogg to paint covers for several of his books.
The painting depicts four luxurious private rail cars in the siding Henry M Flagler built near his hotel, the Royal Poinciana (seen in the background).
