    Description

jewish judaica antique rabbi photo SIMCHA CALIMANI Venezia Venice Italy
Simcha Calimani (Venice 1699 - Venice 1781), rabbi of the Jewish community of Venice, a Hebrew playwright and poet. Simcha Kalimani taught in the community Talmud Torah. He composed several literary works, including "The Exiled Proverb," which describes the evil traits of his contemporaries. The main contents of the book are words of reproach and criticism of the negative phenomena discovered in the society in which he lived. In some cases he describes not only the ugly side of human behavior, but also the absurdity of these phenomena. He mocks their actions while denouncing the flaws in order to educate the readers of his work. His work can be seen as an expression of social life in the Jewish ghetto of Venice in the 18th century.
